RIP Judy Sumner, knitter of socks →
I learned from Ravelry that Judy Sumner, author of the wonderful pattern book, “Knitted Socks East and West,” died on September 17th. I didn’t know her, but I was familiar with her patterns and recommended this book to many knitters looking for a new challenge.
It’s always strange for me when I recognize a familiar designer or Ravelery among the obits there. It’s a big world, but knitting does seem to make it a little smaller. So carry on, knitters. You’re not alone. And keep Judy’s family and friends in your thoughts.

I’m teaching an advanced-beginner baby sock class starting on Oct. 6th at Purl Soho. We do baby socks ‘cause they’re tiny, but you’ll learn everything you need to do big socks, too. Tell your peeps.
